In addition, macOS does not have support for the software GPU, so it runs in a simple graphics mode changing the memory allocated doesnt matter. System 7.6 (which has to be purchased) would also have worked, and could be updated to 7.6.1. Software like Virtualbox emulates a software GPU (essentially a 2D framebuffer) which is exposed to the VM, macOS itself has no knowledge of your real hardware.
